I've been doing a lot of video and audio editing at work the last month or so. It took me about a week to realize that the 8-core Mac Pro STR purchased for a server would be a pretty good editing machine as well. I mean, the file and database serving functions register as barely a blip on the machine's Activity Monitor. I began editing, rendering and exporting all of our video on the server. I'm dealing with a lot of HD video and that's very processor intensive and time-consuming. These same tasks on my laptop (which is the fastest Apple makes) took almost 5 times as long.

There was only one problem. Our server was in another room. I was hopping out of my chair dozens of times per day to check on how things were going on the server. Well, that's all over now... I've moved the server to my desk. I have two monitors set up and I never have to get up again... God forbid...

Now I can grow huge...
