Funny thing about our trip
to school

So, today we actually began to figure out our morning
routine with Kenzie now in school. It was the first day
that I drove her to school to drop her off.
Honestly, I was a little nervous about how it would go.
Yesterday, Tina was on campus the whole day. Today I
just had to let her go...
First thing I realized is that I don’t need to listen
to the radio on the way to work anymore. Kenzie will
take care of the entertainment in the car for the
entire drive. She talked to me about Christmas and
Winter and even created a new matching game in her head
involving snowflakes and saying “No snow!” when you
don’t get a match (kind of like Go Fish).
When we arrived at her school, I walked Kenzie to her
classroom. The teacher had not yet opened the room, so
we waited outside. Kenzie was anxious for her teacher
to open the door. I had the whole scenario worked out
in my head: Kenzie might cry a little, I’d give her a
hug and tell her that Mommy would be there to pick her
up in a few hours, that she should be good and listen
to her teacher and try to make some new friends, etc...
That’s not exactly what happened...
When the teacher opened the door, Kenzie ran into the
room, put her folder away and completely ignored me. I
stood outside the door waiting for her to come and give
me a hug. She didn’t... I tried to get her attention to
tell her goodbye and let her know that I was leaving,
she was not interested. I guess she’s ready and excited
for Kindergarten.
Tomorrow, I’m going to have to remind her to give me a
hug and a kiss before she goes into her classroom. The
hug and kiss will be for my peace of mind, not hers...
